Multi-jet modeling is a rapid prototyping method in which a plastic model is created in layers directly from the 3-D CAD data using a print head with several linear nozzles. The wax-like thermoplastics are sprayed on as fine drops through a heated print head at a resolution of 300 dpi and higher and polymerized by means of UV light. For overhangs, a support structure of lower-melting wax is constructed that is removed later by being heated. The finished models can be very easily machine-processed, glued or coated (for example by means of vacuum metallization).
The method which is very similar to that of an inkjet printer is particularly suitable for high-detail, filigreed concept models and design prototypes. From this true-to-detail original model, castings (using a vacuum casting process, for example) can be produced in subsequent processes if needed.
G.W.P. AG manufactures high-quality plastic prototypes using the MJM process. Whether components for concept development, samples for design review or function prototypes for form and fit analysis, multi-jet modeling is the best rapid prototyping method when speed and maximum detail are needed.
